The Streets of New York

This picture was taken in New York on a wet Summers Day.  The High Line is an interesting new architectural feature of the Big Apple.  A derelict railway line was transformed into a walkway facilitating a fascinating view of the streets below.  Ideal for getting great street shots which would otherwise go unnoticed.  The planting is also a special feature of the High Line.  Plants which you would expect to find on an abandoned railway are used along this fascinating  highrise platform.

I took this image because it raises questions about the subject.  Is he just having a rest on a busy New York street or is he homeless?  His clothes seem to suggest that he is not totally down and out.  aaaaaaaaaaa aaaaa aaaaa aaaaaaa aaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a         a aaa

Josephine at the Guggenheim Museum.  While wandering through the Guggenheim I spotted Josephine taking a rest two floors below.  The light was great and she was framed by the incredible staircase.

Memories of hot Summers Day in Washington DC.  Stunning Architecture everywhere but an eerie feeling that global wars are never far away.

Lough Boora.

hen harrier
Lough Boora is an incredible place for birdwatchers, photographers, artists, nature lovers, cyclists, walkers, strollers, in fact anyone with a love for the Great Outdoors.  A cut away bog which is reverting back to its natural state is home to a great variety of wildlife and this protected  habitat is ideal for wildlife which is quickly vanishing from the Irish landscape.
The Hen Harrier was recently spotted hunting in this wild and wonderful place.  This bird is on the endangered list throughout Europe and there are only a few hundred nesting pairs in Ireland.
It was a great priviledge see this graceful bird hovering and swooping over the open cutaway wilderness.  I was lucky to get a few shots (with camera of course) of this rare bird.

We definitely spotted a pair of birds and maybe a third.  They stayed in the area for 30 minutes or so and as the light faded they seemed to retreat to the woodland nearby.

As we were leaving Lough Boora we were suddenly startled by the loud trumpeting sound  of a flying formation of swans.   They flew right overhead and landed with a splash on the lake surface – a wonderful sight to end an Autumn stroll at Lough Boora.

The familiar crow was plain to be seen in murders and as individuals scavenging in the stubble fields or keeping watchful eye from the Birdhide.

Slideshow from Ballyvaughan 21/2/2010

For my 60th Birthday last February I went to Ballyvaughan in Co.Claret.  We rented a cottage in that beautiful village and I spent early mornings trying to capture something of the magic of the wonderful light that floods  that part of the world.  Have a look at my slideshow and leave a comment.     clare (1)
